Forecasting domestic tourism demand: application to Las Vegas arrivals data
Article Abstract:
Forecasting techniques applied to international tourism data may not be applicable for domestic tourism data because of inherent differences in the way external factors affect these markets. Using tourism data from Las Vegas, NV, different models were generated to make forecasts of visitor arrivals. For general forecasting situations, exponential smoothing proved to be just as accurate as more complicated techniques. Moreover, this quantitative forecasting technique was shown to have lower error magnitudes than the 'no change' extrapolation model.

The outlook for travel in 1993
Article Abstract:
Travel industry members expressed their views regarding the prospects of tourism in 1993 during the recently-held Travel Outlook Forum held in Washington, DC. The main concern expressed by almost everyone was the detrimental effects of the current global economic downturn on the industry. This economic uncertainty has caused consumer confidence to decline. Although some growth is still foreseen, it will be slow.
