The number of tourists to Zimbabwe grew to 1,415,500 in 1995 from 582,600 in 1990. Income receipts from tourists rose to $144.7 million in 1995 from $60.2 million in 1990, accounting for 4.6% of GDP in 1995 compared with 2.6% in 1990. Victoria Falls and safari camps are helping to consolidate Zimbabwe's tourist industry and there is plenty of room for growth. The infastructure is generally good, attracting many visitors by bus and rail. International air links are also good. The local population benefits from the tourist trade because of increased employment opportunities.

Malawi
Article Abstract:
The tourist industry in Malawi is underdeveloped providing around $6.5 million in 1996 which is only 0.4% of the GNP. Figures for 1993 show that around 152,700 foreign visitors came into Malawi and of these 43.2% were on business. On average each visitor spent $99.3 in Malawi during 1993. There is sufficient accommodation for around 3,000 visitors in a variety of locations including lodges in the national parks. The authorities of Malawi are beginning to promote the country and to develop the tourist industry.

Mauritius
Article Abstract:
Mauritius attracted more than 500,000 visitors in 1997, of whom more than half were from Europe. The island benefits from economic and political stability, and also offers beautiful, unspoilt beaches, most of which are protected by coral reefs. Tourism is now the third-largest sector of the Mauritian economy, with gross earnings from tourism estimated at Mrs10.5 billion for 1997. Provisional statistics indicate that 15,000 people were employed in the tourist industry in 1997.
