20S cyclosome complex formation and proteolytic activity inhibited by the cAMP/PKA pathway
Article Abstract:
The protein kinase A regulatory subunit and cyclic AMP phosphodiesterase completely suppress the formation and activity of the 20S cyclosome (anaphase-promoting complex) in fission yeasts. Cut4 is an essential component of the cyclosome. Mutations in cut4 cause hypersensitivity towards cyclic AMP and stress inducing heavy metals, inhibition of anaphase onset, and disruption of the 20S complex. The mutations also inhibit the mitotic cyclin ubiquitination.

Cut2 proteolysis required for sister-chromatid separation in fission yeast
Article Abstract:
Sister-chromatid separation in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe requires anaphase-specific proteolysis of the Cut2 protein. The blockage of sister-chromatid separation by non-degradable Cut2 can be removed by grafting N terminus of cyclin B on truncated Cut2. Cut2 is largely found in the short metaphase spindle in the nucleus. The amino-terminal region and activity of Cut9 is important for Cut2 degradation at anaphase.

Fission yeast Mes1p ensures the onset of meiosis II by blocking degradation of cyclin Cdc13p
Article Abstract:
Meiosis (M) is a special form of nuclear division to generate eggs, sperm and spores in eukaryotes consisting of the first (MI) and the second (MII) meiotic divisions, which occur consecutively. Reports reveal that Mes1p has a key function in saving a sufficient level of MPF (M-phase-promoting factor) required for the execution of MII.
