A greasy grip
Article Abstract:
The lipids and proteins of the cell membrane interact to create a functioning barrier and a high resolution structure of a membrane protein reveals intimate contact with its lipid neighbours. The protein always experiences lipid molecules in the disordered states and fast swapping of lipid molecules takes place between the annular shell and the bulk lipid does not change the environment experienced by the protein.

The more MAD, the merrier
Article Abstract:
A study proposes that two different structural forms of a protein called Mad2 collaborative to change one of the partners from an inactive to an active state. Such self-tempted changes in protein conformation are a characteristic of prions, but represent a new mechanism for cell signaling.

Life on Mars, cellularly speaking
Article Abstract:
A key molecular switch, known as the Ha-Ras protein, is active at the cell's outer membranes as well as on the intracellular membranes. The complexities arising in the cellular signaling, with this discovery, are discussed.
