A new approach to tiger conservation: integrating top-down and bottom-up strategies
Article Abstract:
The use of the command and control model in combination with the community-based Integrated Conservation and Development Projects (ICDPs) is an effective approach to tiger conservation. The case of Nepal's Royal Chitwan National Park (RCNP) demonstrates the benefits of this integrated approach to national anti-poaching programs and serves as a model for other conservation initiatives. By combining the components of the command and control approach and the local development focus of the ICDP model, RCNP was able to restore tiger populations in the area.

The last grizzlies of the American west: the long hard road to recovery
Article Abstract:
The endangered grizzly bear survives in isolated and fragmented wildernesses in some 48 states but it faces increasing pressure from recreational development, logging and roadbuilding. It is clear that the grizzly bear owes its continued existence to protection afforded by the Endangered Species Act and several strategies have been introduced for its protection. An assessment of recovery efforts is presented.
