Erik Jarvik (1907-98)
Article Abstract:
Palaeontologist Erik Jarvik undertook extensive research into early vertebrates. Indeed, he was one of the key figures of the Stockholm school of vertebrate palaeontology. His first important work was his 1942 doctoral thesis, dealing with the anatomy of the snout of the fossil lobe-finned fish. He eventually wrote 51 papers, books and monographs, mainly on lobe-finned fish and tetrapods. He also researched into basic vertebrate head structure, jawless vertebrates, vertebrate origins and sharks.
