A team approach to coastal prairie conservation
Article Abstract:
The US Fish and Wildlife Service has linked with the Sam Houston Resource Conservation and Development Area to establish the Native Gulf Coast Prairie Restoration Project as part of the Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program. This initiative aims to restore and maintain coastal prairie habitat on private lands by giving financial and technical help to landowners for conservation work. It includes a Safe Harbor provision, under which landowners are protected from additional future liabilities under the Endangered Species Act if habitat enhancement leads to larger numbers of Attwater's prairie-chicken.

North Dakota's tallgrass prairie
Article Abstract:
The US Fish and Wildlife Service, together with The Nature Conservancy and the Recreation Department's Natural Heritage Program, are promoting the importance of prairie conservation through the protection of North Dakota's remaining tallgrass prairies. Among the areas being targeted is the Stacks Slough Waterfowl Production Area which contains 1,000 acres of tallgrass prairie. Prairie management techniques include control of invasive plants through controlled burning and planting of appropriate native grasses.
