Australian opposition pledges more funds
Article Abstract:
The Leader of the opposition Labour Party in Australia, Kim Beazley, has pledged science and higher-education research initiatives costing around 600 Australian dollars over three years. The Liberal Party's science and education ministers have defended cuts by the conservative coalition. Labour's proposed funding would need some new money, and one suggestion is that 35% of the profits of Telstra, the country's larges company, should go towards science and development projects.
