Bilayer-dependent inhibition of mechanosensitive channels by neuroactive peptide enantiomers
Article Abstract:
The effect of the peptide GsMTx4, which is a selective inhibitor of stretch-activated cation channels (SACs) and its enantiomer enGsMTinto4 on gramicidin A (gA) channel gating, suspecting it to be a bilayer-dependent mechanism is examined. The results, which are important for interpreting channel and other membrane protein functions, are discussed as also the surprising efficacy of the D form of GsMTx4 peptide, which has important therapeutic implications.
