Bird conservation: more than just chasing the tails
Article Abstract:
Bird conservation entails not just ensuring the continued existence of the less abundant species but also taking care of the habitat management problems caused by overabundant species. The 1973 Endangered Species Act offers a first step in the bird conservation effort. However, the goal of managing the ecosystem requires the preservation of species found in the middle of the distribution. Conservation strategies should, therefore, address entire communities of species at larger regional levels and should integrate social, economic and biological concerns.

Partners in flight: conserving a shared resource
Article Abstract:
The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation has launched the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Program, also known as 'Partners in Flight,' to develop measures that will stop activities that cause harm to migratory bird species. The program is composed of environmentalists, ornithologists and educators and is supported by federal and non-government agencies. Its primary goal is to prevent Neotropical bird populations from declining and reaching a status that will require them to need protection under the Endangered Species Act.

Conserving the migratory birds of Mexico's wetland ecosystems
Article Abstract:
Mexico's wetland ecosystems and biologically diverse topography and climate provide a natural habitat for the largest species of birds in the world. The country houses 1,060 species which represent 11% of the earth's bird population. However, urban development and agriculture, the overexploitation of resources and petroleum production have negatively impacted the wetlands. To halt deforestation and wetland habitat loss, the North American Wetlands Conservation Act was passed in 1989 by the US Congress.
