Bodies on the brink
Article Abstract:
The Kuiper belt is present beyond the planets in the solar system and contains comets which were formed during the formation of the solar system. These early comets failed to become planets because of their distance from the sun and the low density of the nebula material. It has been estimated that there are 35,000 objects in the Kuiper belt with a diameter more than 100 km. The Hubble Space Telescope has detected about 50 of these objects whose diameters vary from 10 km to 20 km.

Comet on target for Jupiter
Article Abstract:
The predicted collision of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 with Jupiter on Jul 1994 will contribute towards a better understanding of cosmic events. The comet was discovered in 1993 by Carolyn Shoemaker as a series of split objects orbiting Jupiter. It has been hypothesized that such splitting is caused by tidal forces when a comet has exceeded the Roche limit. Scientists are now discussing other implications of the upcoming event.

Water vapor in the atmosphere of a transiting extrasolar planet
Article Abstract:
The observations of the hot Jupiter HD 189733b taken during the transit, when the planet passed in front of its parent star has revealed presence of water vapor as the cause of wave-length dependant variations in the radius of the planet.
