Bone marrow cells regenerate infarcted myocardium
Article Abstract:
Research is presented describing how cardiac cells are killed during myocardial infarction and replaced by scar tissue, which impairs cardiac performance and frequently results in heart failure. The research shows that locally delivered bone marrow cells can generate new myocardium to replace the dead heart cells, thereby reducing the risks following coronary artery disease.

Bare bones of the cytoskeleton
Article Abstract:
Carlier and colleagues have reported the first reconstitution of bacterial motility from pure components. They also found that three other proteins, profilin, VASP and alpha-actin, not necessary for movement, although they are important. Alpha-actin did not influence the speed of bacterial movement, but had an affect on the morphology of the tails.

Hearts and bones
Article Abstract:
Because cardiac cells are killed during heart attacks and replaced by scar tissue, which affects the heart's performance, heart attacks are often followed by heart failure. Scientist Donald Orlic and his colleagues have found a group of cells derived from bone marrow that could be used to replace dead heart cells.
