Bright rings around sunspots
Article Abstract:
It has been established that isolated sunspots are frequently surrounded by a ring of enhanced radiation. It is likely that the origin of this ring is the re-emergence of heat blocked by magnetic inhibition of convective transport in the spot itself, rather than bright vertical magnetic elements (plage field). Sunspots are either a shallow phenomenon, or magnetohydrodynamic flows surrounding them convey heat to the surface more efficiently than is anticipated on the basis of turbulent diffusion models.

Evidence for downward mass flux in the penumbral region of a sunspot
Article Abstract:
The physical nature of sunspots and their link with the Sun's global magnetic field is still not fully understood. The greatest uncertainty relates to the Evershed flow, material that streams from sunspots and then vanishes at the outer penumbral edges. A three dimensional magnetic fields and mass flow model in the vicinity of a sunspot was obtained through a new optical tomographic technique, showing that some magnetic fields lines along with some of the Evershed material, flow back towards the Sun.

Violent hiccup from a newborn star
Article Abstract:
The detection of an X-ray outburst of great intensity from YLW15, a young star in the Rho Ophiuchi star-forming region, raises a number of interesting questions, particularly in relation to the Sun as a powerful X-ray source. Research suggest that the young Sun could have been a much more powerful X-ray source than it is now. Indeed, the evolution of the inner Solar System may have been influenced by very strong X-ray outbursts from the proto-Sun.
