The 1994 conference for the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was held in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Formed in 1973, CITES accords different levels of protection to wildlife in danger of extinction. Issues discussed during the conference are taken up.

The trade in drugs and wildlife
Article Abstract:
Drug and wildlife trafficking are the two largest illegal businesses in the world. Their profitability was placed at between $5 billion to $20 billion a year. Wildlife and drug smuggling must be exposed and funding for the US Fish and Wildlife Service must be raised to avert the growing problem.
