EU science fund targets young guns
Article Abstract:
The European Council of Ministers' (ERC's) scientific council has agreed on a first funding stream with the approval of a budget of 7.5 billion euros over seven years, open to any scientist embarking on an independent research career. Individual investigators may apply for a second stream of funding of up to one million euros with excellence in cutting-edge research being the only criterion for such funding.

China and Germany join forces over SARS

The meeting and discussions between Jiang-Hua-Liang and Rolf Hilgenfeld about the study of the virus behind 'severe acute respiratory syndrome' (SARS) are discussed. The researchers realized that they could work efficiently together to develop new leads for anti-SARS drugs.
