Familiarity in schooling fish: how long does it take to acquire?
Article Abstract:
An experiment was conducted on female guppies to determine how long it takes for them to school based on familiarity. A repeated measures of analysis of variance was used to analyze statistical data. Results showed that female guppies preferred to school with familiar rather than unfamiliar conspecifics. Moreover, it took 12 days before they began to school with their tank-mates.

Sex and schooling behaviour in the Trinidadian guppy
Article Abstract:
The hypothesis that female guppies are more likely to prefer to school with same-sex members of their natural wild school, than males. Female guppies were found to preferentially with familiar females from their natural wild schools, with males showing no preference. This suggests that wild guppy schools are not random conspecific assemblages.
