Four years on, no transgenes found in Mexican maize
Article Abstract:
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used for detecting transgenes from genetically modified (GM) crops of traditional maize varieties in Oaxaca, Mexico in the year 2000. However, no transgenes were found in maize from 2003 to 2004 due to the reduction in GM maize imports and provision of education to farmers.

Recruitment of entomopathogenic nematodes by insect-damaged maize roots
Article Abstract:
A study is carried out on an insect-induced belowground plant signal, (E)-beta-caryophyllene that strongly attracts an entomopathogenic nematode. Details of this sesquiterpene released by maize roots when the larvae of the beetle Diabrotica virgifera virgifera feed on its root are discussed.

In the name of nature
Article Abstract:
Radical environmental activists who look at science, especially technology, with deep distrust are firebombing research facilities. They view science as a string of declarations made by scientists who do not respect their deeply felt connection to individual places, animals and trees.
