France: too much analysis leads to paralysis?
Article Abstract:
Economic and political changes have encouraged the French government to develop new strategies in research. The strategies will involve the reformation of the research system in the universities and in the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique. The implementation of new strategies will enhance applied science research and society- and industry-oriented research. However, it will reduce the extent of basic research, leaving several scientists working in related fields without a job.

This is revealed in the four-year contract signed by the CEA with the French Government. The CEA has decided to concentrate only on long term-research projects in pure sciences.
