From hive minds to humans
Article Abstract:
Researchers are releasing a tool set for analyzing the genome, including an improved microarray of honeybee genes and a list of DNA variations called single nucleotide polymorphisms, which can be used to find the genetic causes of social traits. Molecular biologists and bee researchers believe that the tool set would help in detecting the links between bee and human behavior as well as human health.

Ubiquitination by the anaphase-promoting complex drives spindle checkpoint inactivation
Article Abstract:
The checkpoint inactivation is shown to be an energy-consuming process involving anaphase-promoting complex (APC)-dependent multi-ubiquitination. The analysis has provided a mechanistic basis for how cancer cells can have a compromised spindle checkpoint without corresponding mutations in checkpoint genes.
