G1 cell-cycle control and cancer
Article Abstract:
Human cells, before replicating DNA during their reproductive cycle, enter a phase called G1 during which they interpret many signals that influence cell division and cell fate, a process in which mistakes occur leading to cancer. A complex and coherent view of G1 signaling networks, which coordinate cell growth, proliferation, stress management and survival, is helping to define the causes of malignances and shows promise for the development of better cancer therapies.

Article Abstract:
The mechanisms by which cells modulate progression through the cell cycle in the face of DNA damage and other stresses that affect DNA replication are discussed. How much an individual is exposed to DNA-damaging agents and how their cells respond to DNA damage are critical determinants of whether that individual will develop cancer.
