Graphene-based composite materials
Article Abstract:
A general approach is presented for the preparation of graphene-polymer composites via complete exfoliation of graphite and molecular-level dispersion of individual, chemically modified graphene sheets within polymer hosts. A polystyrene-graphene composite thus formed exhibits a percolation threshold of 0.1% for room-temperature electrical conductivity, the lowest for any carbon-based composite except those of carbon nanotubes, enabling a broad class of graphene-based materials.

Materials research unit to break the mould in Japan
Article Abstract:
An economically profitable materials research center composed of two laboratories will be set in Kawasaki, Japan and Lexington, KY, by a joint venture of ten Japanese companies and two research laboratories. The renowned Japanese technological visionary, Tadashi Sasaki, is its president. The center will develop high valued materials important for future and present markets. In the primary project, conductive polymers and carbon 60 are the materials to be manufactured.
