Heavy extinctions of forest avifauna in Singapore: lessons for biodiversity conservation in Southeast Asia
Article Abstract:
Studies indicate that deforestation in Singapore has contributed significantly to the disappearance of bird species between 1923 and 1998. Extinctions were highest among larger-bodied birds during 1923 to 1949, while canopy feeders suffered the heaviest losses; more than half the region's total avifauna populations became extinct locally within the research period.

Response of soil fauna to landscape heterogeneity: determining optimal scales for biodiversity modeling
Article Abstract:
Regional habitat is a key component in managing wildlife species conservation, with landscape descriptors accounting for the majority of species richness variances. The method is applied to Collembola populations of the Massif of Arize, located in the French Pyrenees, as an illustration.
