Hwang takes the stand at fraud trial
Article Abstract:
Cloning expert Woo Suk Hwang took the stand in court, Seoul, South Korea, in his defense against the claims that he misappropriated money, committed fraud and broke bioethics law. Hwang had claimed in 2004 and 2005 that he had cloned human embryos and extracted stem cells with great therapeutic potential but later these claims were found to be fake and Hwang was charged for fraud and violation of bioethics laws along with his colleagues.

The first meeting of the parties of Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, discussed on the judgment of the potential environmental danger of a genetically modified organism. The outcome of this discussion was that, detailed information should be provided with each shipment of genetically modified grain, which disappointed representatives from the US, who are the largest exporters of genetically modified crops.

Biologists seek stamp of approval to send live fruitflies by post
Article Abstract:
Current international rules prohibit the transfer of most live animals by post, including live fruitflies which are used for biological and medical research world-wide. Biomedical distributors have launched a bid to get international postal regulations modified to make it legal to send live fruitflies by post.
