Inhibition of neurotransmitter release by C2 domain peptides implicates synaptotagmin in exocytosis
Article Abstract:
The inhibition of neurotransmitter release by C2-domain peptides indicate the role of synaptotagmin in regulating the process of exocytosis. This was shown by injecting the said peptides into the presynaptic terminals of the giant squid Loligo pealei. The peptides competed in blocking the release of neurotransmitters, suggesting the role of Ca2+ in the reverse process. Ca+2 initiates the process by regulating the interaction of synaptotagmin with an acceptor protein.

Subthreshold synaptic Ca2+ signalling in fine dendrites and spines of cerebellar Purkinje neurons
Article Abstract:
Variations in the dendritic concentration of calcium, the second messenger produced by the synaptic activity in cerebellar Purkinje neurons, are investigated to determine the occurrence of synaptic integration at different levels. Synaptic integration causes the formation of a simple summation of electric signals. Non-electrical synaptic integration occurs within dendritic compartments made of fine dendrites and adjacent spines.

A new class of synaptic response involving calcium release in dendritic spines
Article Abstract:
Research has established the identity of synaptic calcium transient factors in the synaptic gap between parallel glutamatergic fibres and Purkinje cells of mouse cerebellum tissue. The postsynaptic factors appear to be regulated by metabotropic glutamate-responsive mGlueR1-type receptors. Biochemical inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate-mediated calcium is involved in receptor activation.
