Kainate receptors mediate synaptic transmission between cones and 'Off' bipolar cells in a mammalian retina
Article Abstract:
A graded hyperpolarization is produced by light in retinal photoreceptors, reducing their release of synaptic neurotransmitter. Glutamate is used by cone photoreceptors as a neurotransmitter. A recording from a cone and a synaptically linked 'Off' bipolar cell from the retina of the ground squirrel, shows that transmission is mediated by kainate-preferring glutamate receptors.

Why do colours fade at the edges?
Article Abstract:
Issues are presented concerning the physiological factors which determine the discrimination between colours by the peripheral or central parts of the retina. The poorer colour vision in the peripheral parts is discussed.

Chromatic sensitivity of ganglion cells in the peripheral primate retina
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the physiological factors which enable the retina in primates to differentiate well between colors in foveal vision but to differentiate poorly in peripheral vision.
