Male density, female density and inter-sexual conflict in a stream-dwelling insect
Article Abstract:
Male and female density effect the inter-sexual conflict over mating in the water strider, Aquarius remigis. Female resistance and struggle duration are responsible for the mating behavior of females. There is a direct relation between the female mating frequency and male density. The male or female density have no effect on the male mating frequency. Female mating behavior and male phenotype are unrelated, showing that female choice is absent in A. remigis.
