Lakes linked beneath Antarctic ice
Article Abstract:
A rethink of plans to explore the watery world under Antarctic's ice sheet is prompted as a result of the discovery that lakes hidden deep beneath the Antarctic ice could burst under pressure 'like champagne corks'. Antarctic's subglacial lakes have attracted close attention since researchers first realized, that they might be isolated for millions of years and so could harbour unique microbial ecosystems.

Russian bid to drill Antarctic lake gets chilly response
Article Abstract:
Russian researchers are all prepared to drill an underground lake in the Antarctica starting from Lake Vostok, which lies 4,000 meters below the surface. According to experts, the team's equipment has not been properly tested and could contaminate the potentially unique ecosystems that inhabit Vostok's 5,400 cubic kilometers of water.
