Lunar probe ready to bite the dust
Article Abstract:
The spacecraft SMART-1, propelled by an ion engine, was sent to the moon by the European Space Agency (ESA) to survey the Moon's surface and to gather data on the abundances of calcium, aluminum, magnesium and silicon on the lunar surface. On September 3 2006, SMART-1 would crash into the lunar surface, and scientists hope for information about the Moon's origin, composition and impact history from the dust generated from the crash site.
