Nest attendance during egg laying in pheasants
Article Abstract:
It is common for ring-necked pheasants, Phasianus colchicus, to lay eggs after the start of incubation. This brings about a developmental asynchrony of between one and three days in addition to the asynchrony developed during the laying period. Some selective pressure must make the early start of incubation beneficial. The number of breeding attempts by female pheasants and the interaction between physical condition and number of breeding attempts are negatively connected with the time spent on the nest.

MHC and kin discrimination in juvenile Arctic charr, Salvelinus alpinus (L.)
Article Abstract:
The effect of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) on kin discrimination was studied in the juvenile Arctic charr, Salvelinus alpinus. The findings revealed that the fish can distinguish between self and nonself MHC genotypes among siblings, thereby indicating that sibling recognition was controlled by MHC. The results further indicated that discrimination of the genotype of particular MHC class II B, exon two locus, as well as other related loci from conspecifics are accomplished via olfactory cues.

Spacing behavior of male pheasants, Phasianus colchicus, in relation to dominance and mate acquisition
Article Abstract:
The effects of male dominance and attractiveness on male spacing behaviour in Phasianus colchicus (pheasants)are analyzed. The three considered spacing variables are home-range area, calling activity and movements between consecutive days. Although male-male competition is important to the maintenance of territories and mating opportunities, male pheasants adjust their spacing behaviour mainly as a response to mating preferences of the females.
