Notch signalling regulates stem cell numbers in vitro and in vivo
Article Abstract:
Notch receptor activation has enhanced the expression of the specific target genes hairy and enhancer of split 3 (Hes3) and Sonic hedgehog (Shh) through rapid activation of cytoplasmic signals, including the serine/threonine kinase Akt, the transcription factor STAT3 and mammalian target of rapamycin and thereby promotes the survival of neural stem cells. The results have indicated that stem cell expansion in vitro and in vivo might be achieved by Notch ligands through a pathway that is fundamental to development and cancer.

Caught in time
Article Abstract:
The various research efforts that are under way to find a better method to detect cancer at an early stage are discussed. Scientists are looking for effective biomarkers, the DNA or proteins that act as indicators of normal or pathological biological processes that could be used to screen for the presence of a cancer.

New cell lines from mouse epiblast share defining features with human embryonic stem cells
Article Abstract:
The cell lines that is derived from the epiblast, a tissue of the post implantation embryo that generates the embryo proper is studied, which shows that the epiblast cells can be maintained as stable cell lines and helps to understand the generation of distinct fates of pluripotent cells during early development.
