Article Abstract:
The influences of black holes on surrounding stars are being identified with increasing certainty, although they cannot be seen directly. The observations of stellar dynamics have so far revealed compact, dark masses at the center of almost 40 galaxies, but the exceptions are the dark masses at the core of the galaxy NGC 4258, in the Milky Way and also in the Andromeda galaxy.

Suppression of Raf-1 kinase activity and MAP kinase signalling by RKIP
Article Abstract:
MEK-1, the kinase that activates the extracellular signal regulated kinases (ERK), is activated and phosphorylated by Raf-1. A new Raf-1-interacting protein has been isolated, using a two-hybrid screen. The protein, named Raf kinase inhibitor protein (RKIP) inhibits the activation and phosphorylation of MEK by Raf-1.

A dark jet dominates the power output of the stellar black hole Cygnus X-1
Article Abstract:
A large-scale ring-like structure inflated by the inner radio jet surrounds the 10-solar-mass black hole in the X-ray binary Cygnus X-1. The jet of Cygnus X-1 carries high kinetic power similar to the bolometric X-ray luminosity of the binary system for sustaining the emission of the ring.
