Overexpression of the HDL receptor SR-BI alters plasma HDL and bile cholesterol levels
Article Abstract:
Plasma high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in mice almost completely disappears when there is adenovirus-mediated, hepatic overexpression of SR-BI, the class B scavenger receptor, on both sinusoidal and canalicular surfaces of hepatocytes. There is also a significant rise in biliary cholesterol. It is therefore possible to conclude that SR-BI may be significant in hepatic HDL metabolism. It could have an impact on both the development and progression of atherosclerosis and gallstone disease. This information may provide new impetus for the study of lipoprotein and lipid metabolism.

An endothelial receptor for oxidized low-density lipoprotein
Article Abstract:
Molecular cloning of an oxidatively modified low-density lipoprotein (Ox-LDL) receptor from vascular endothelial cells is discussed. The Ox-LDL receptor, LOX-1, is a type II membrane protein expressed in vivo in vascular endothelium and vascular-rich organs such as the placenta, lungs, brain and liver. Ox-LDL uptake through LOX-1 expressed on the surface of vascular endothelium may also be involved in endothelial activation or dysfunction in atherogenesis.

HIV-1 subtype and second-receptor use
Article Abstract:
HIV receptor usage depends on the phenotype of the virus rather than its genetic subtype. CXCR4 and CCR5 are the main co-receptors that enable the entry of HIV-1 subtypes A-E and group O into CD4+ cells of the immune system. NSI phenotype viruses use CCR5 whereas SI strains, which induce syncytia, use CXCR4. The uneven worldwide distribution of viral subtypes is due to stochastic dissemination.
