Partners for Fish and Wildlife: a new name for a growing program
Article Abstract:
The Partners for Wildlife Program established by the US Fish and Wildlife Service in 1987 has involved cooperation with private landowners to restore and protect a range of environments, including native prairie and riparian corridor. The Partners program has been involved in more than 17,500 cooperative habitat restoration initiatives with private landowners, and its work has included the restoration of more than 363,000 acres of wetlands. The Fish and Wildlife Service decided in Feb 1998 to change the program's name to Partners for Fish and Wildlife, thus highlighting a watershed and ecosystem approach to conservation.

Living with wildlife in Texas hill country
Article Abstract:
Del Webb Corporation in Texas has planned a community for people and two endangered invertebrates, the Bone Cave harvestman (Texella reyesi) and the Coffin Cave mold beetle (Batrisodes texanus). The careful planning of the real estate development project will help preserve the biological integrity of cave habitats in the areas. The plan has been reviewed and accepted by the Fish and Wildlife Dept as one which will protect the endangered invertebrates. The plan includes about 29 caves which support endangered species and will provide for long-term management and protection from non-native fire ants.
