Population characteristics of feral horses on Cumberland Island, Georgia and their management implications
Article Abstract:
Feral horse bands on Cumberland Island, GA, are socially unstable, according to research into the social structure and demography of the feral horse population on this island. Factors contributing to the unstable social structure observed may include the high degree of home range overlap, the lack of territorial behaviour and the large number of bachelors. It is clear that population control attempts must concentrate on a range of non-lethal techniques, particularly horse adoption or fertility control.

Use of glycoprotein assays for pregnancy diagnosis in white-tailed deer
Article Abstract:
Quantitative pregnancy-associated glycoprotein (PAG) tests was developed to assure accuracy in detecting pregnancy in deer. Sera is collected at three stages: before breeding, throughout gestation and right after parturition. The sera are tested by radioimmunoassay (RIA). Findings include increase in PAG levels throughout pregnancy which also reflected foetal number in RIA beyond the gestation period. Accuracy was 100% beyond the 32nd day of gestation.
