Resolution of distinct rotational substeps by submillisecond kinetic analysis of F1-ATPase
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the rotary motor functions of the enzyme F1-ATPase in relation to its cylinder which comprises alpha3beta3 subunits. The use of high-speed imaging to reveal the stepping of the motor is discussed.

Tying a molecular knot with optical tweezers
Article Abstract:
It is possible to continuously control the radius of curvature of a molecular strand by tying a knot in it. Optical tweezers are used to manipulate the strand's ends. The transparent grip by the optical tweezers permits continuous manipulation during knotting. Knotting takes tens of seconds, and thus needs a medium with a high effective viscosity which suppresses the brownian motion. However, rapid knotting should be possible if the movement of the optical tweezers is electronically programmed.
