Rival Parkinson's bills focus US debate on fetal tissue
Article Abstract:
The contentious issue of using aborted fetal tissue for research purposes has re-emerged as two bills call for large increases in research funding for Parkinson's disease. Morris K. Udall's bill suggests a ban on federal funding for Parkinson's research using fetal tissue from induced abortions. Chris Smith's alternative bill argues that generic nerve cell research can spell substantial progress in combating the disease. However, it advocates Parkinson's research as a transitory step towards sources such as pig fetal tissue fof cells transplant.
