Self-determination or environmental determinism for indigenous peoples in tropical forest conservation
Article Abstract:
The existing and emerging rights of indigenous peoples in international law are endorsed by mainstream conservation organizations such as the WorldWide Fund for Nature (International) and the World Conservation Union. Field experiences from the Guiana Highlands, South Venezuela, highlight how outsiders have helped indigenous people secure their rights to their lands and resources.

Research indicates that DNA extraction from the tusks of African elephants can enable wildlife managers to genetically track the origin of ivory that has been poached, and thereby identify regions in need of stronger antipoaching controls.
