Signals from the reproductive system regulate the lifespan of C. elegans
Article Abstract:
Signals from the reproductive system are shown to affect the lifespan of the Caenorhabditis elegans nematode. It is suggested that germline signals modulate the activity of an insulin/insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) pathway that regulates ageing. Mutants with reduced insulin/IGF-1-receptor homologue DAF-2 activity, live twice as long as normal. DAF-16 is required for germline ablation to extend lifespan.

Functional genomic analysis of C. elegans chromosome 1 by systematic RNA interference
Article Abstract:
Caenorhabditis elegans is one of only two multicellular eukaryotes for which scientists have determined the complete genomic sequence. Researchers have used systematic RNA interference for functional genomic analysis of the C. elegans chromosome 1, to develop a more complete picture of relationships between the environment, gene function and the genome.
