Social dynamics in salmonid fishes: do kin make better neighbours?
Article Abstract:
The examination of kin discrimination in salmonid fishes reveals that they show reduced aggressive behavior toward their own kin than toward intruders. Such behavior is beneficial as it increases the fishes' chances of survival and provides inclusive fitness to the kin group. The salmonid fishes' passive behavior toward their own kind allows them to use their energy for development, and reduces their chances of physical injury. The role of kinship in affecting the social dynamics of salmonid fishes is apparent in their territorial behavior.

Acquired recognition of novel predator odour cocktails by juvenile glowlight tetras
Article Abstract:
The recognition of three novel heterospecific odours as predation threats by predator-naive glowlight tetras and whether this recognition confers a survival benefit is examined. The results demonstrated acquired recognition and not a generalization to novel predator odours.

The influence of the behaviour of conspecifics on responses to threat in the Mongolian gerbil, Meriones unguiculatus
Article Abstract:
The extent to which the Mongolian gerbils use the behaviours of conspecifics to assess threat is experimented. The experiments demonstrated a mechanism by which gerbils can use the behaviour of conspecifics to calibrate thresholds for flight from predators.
