Superconductivity in a two-dimensional electron gas
Article Abstract:
Kravchenko and colleagues recently observed that a two-dimensional electron gas in zero magnetic field can become conducting at low temperatures. Conventional theories preclude the existences of a metallic state at zero temperature in two dimensions. There are several experiments that confirm the existence of a new conducting phase. It is now argued that such as phase is actually a superconductor with an inhomogeneous charge density.

Article Abstract:
Inelastic magnetic neutron-scattering measurements report the distinct possibility that genuine long-range antiferromagnetism and superconductivity do not coexist. The data reveal a magnetic quantum critical point where superconductivity first appears, consistent with an exotic quantum phase transition between the two phases.
