Tests of hypotheses for sexual segregation in grizzly bears
Article Abstract:
A study has been conducted to compare three hypotheses for sexual segregation. The 'no avoidance' hypothesis predicts that females have their own habitats that are different from male-occupied habitats. The 'food' hypothesis predicts that subadult and adult females avoid males to avoid competition for food with adult males. The 'sex' hypothesis predicts that only sexually mature females avoid males because males are likely to attack cubs to gain breeding opportunities. Results showed that the behavior of grizzly bears are consistent with the sex hypothesis.

Landscape proportions versus Monte Carlo simulated home ranges for estimating habitat availability
Article Abstract:
A goodness-of-fit test for comparing habitat proportions between randomly located home rangers is evaluated and home rangers are observed. Type I error rates for this method are less than and equal to 0.08, regardless of number of animals, home-range size, and number of habitats tested.

Estimating wind turbine-caused bird mortality
Article Abstract:
The mortality estimation of the birds and bats killed by the wind turbines are presented. Models are developed to predict the proportion of carcasses remaining since the last fatality search.
