Wildlife under fire: charred land in Yellowstone became a symbol of renewal
Article Abstract:
Issues concerning the role forest fires play in the natural life cycle of wildlife are examined, focusing on an argument that fires are not necessarily the enemy of wildlife. Topics include the experience of fires in Yellowstone National Park, relatively fearless response most animals show to fire unless they are dangerously close, and the manner in which fires can improve wildlife habitats by breaking up landscape and encouraging new plant growth.
