Authors' reply
Article Abstract:
This article is authors' response to comments on their research communication reporting the absence of a DNA uptake sequence in Helicobacter pylori. Authors clarify that their results are based on oligonucleotide frequency analysis of up to 12 bases which was considered adequate.

Comparative whole-genome analyses reveal over 100 putative phase-variable genes in the pathogenic Neisseria spp
Article Abstract:
Research describes complete genome sequences of three species/strains of Neisseria in relation to their phase-variable gene repertoires. Analysis and comparison of the genome sequences reveal additional genes in each of the species/strains due to phase variation. Results suggest a horizontal exchange of genes influencing species and strain complementation.

Absence in Helicobacter pylori of an uptake sequence for enhancing uptake of homospecific DNA during transformation
Article Abstract:
Helicobactor pylori strain 26685 genome sequence examined by Frequent word searching technique did not show the presence of an uptake sequence in this bacterium. This is the first species of gram-negative bacteria without an uptake sequence.
