Cloning and characterization of NADP-mannitol dehydrogenase cDNA from the button mushroom, Agaricus bisporus, and its expression in response to NaCl stress
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to isolate, sequence and characterize the mannitol dehydrogenase (MtDH) cDNA of Agaricus bisporus. Centrifugal filtration was carried out to desalt crude extracts and purification fractions while RNA was isolated from vegetative mycelium grown on agar medium. Results indicated that MtDH supports a critical function in salt tolerance and fruit body development. Findings also showed that MtDH cDNA can be determined in fermentative organisms to generate enzymes which can be utilized for commercial mannitol production.

Bsn-t alleles from French field strains of Agaricus bisporus
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine Bsn-t alleles from the Californian Agaricus bisporus button mushroom population. Fruiting studies were carried at 15 degrees C with a relative humidity of 90% while light microscopy was performed to determine the numbers of spores per basidium. Spore germination and mating tests were also performed on compost agar medium. Results showed that the rate of chromosome recombination depended on the BSN genotype.

Temporal and spatial dispersal of Cladobotryum conidia in the controlled environment of a mushroom growing room
Article Abstract:
Cladobotryum conidia was released into the air in direct response to physical disturbance of disease colonies during either crop watering or treatment by covering with salt to 10 mm in two commercial and one experimental mushroom-growing room. A maximum concentration of ~2,500 conidia [m.sup.-3] is recorded in a small experimental growing room in the hour following the salting of 16 cobweb patches (0.55 [m.sup.2]).
