Effect of different carbon sources on community composition of bacterial enrichments from soil
Article Abstract:
The response of soil bacterial communities to carbon source enrichment in small matrices by means of terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (TRFLP) analysis is studied. Results reveal that in order to maximize the diversity of bacteria recovered from the environment, multiple enrichments should be performed using a chemically diverse set of carbon sources.

Identification of unique type II polyketide synthase genes in soil
Article Abstract:
The study aims to develop a culture-independent method to identify genes encoding novel and unique polyketide synthases (PKS) pathways. It also hypothesized that soil containing a large diversity of actinomycetes, as indicated by terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (TRFLP), also contains a large diversity of PKS gene sequences.

Biogeography of actinomycete communities and type II polyketide synthase genes in soils collected in New Jersey and central Asia
Article Abstract:
The studies related to actinomycete communities and type II polyketide synthase (PKS) genes found in soils collected from New Jersey and Uzbekistan indicates that the cosmopolitan actinomycete species and PKS pathways might account for only a small proportion of the total diversity in soil.
