Enhanced adaptive evolution of sperm-expressed genes on the mammalian X chromosome
Article Abstract:
The prediction of the X-linkage theory that if positive selection were acting more strongly on X-linked genes, a difference is expected in the proportion of affected codons within positively selected X-linked and autosomal sperm genes, is tested. Consistent with the prediction, the result show a significant higher proportion of affected codons in positively selected sperm genes on the X chromosome suggesting that positive selection is enhanced in X-linked genes.

XYZW as nature's language of love?
Article Abstract:
A study investigated asymmetries in different mechanisms of sex determination to explain why animals end up using different mating systems. Mammals use the familiar XY sex determination system having the tendency more to intermale competition for females whereas bird and butterflies use the analogous ZW system tending towards female-choice based on ornate male display.

Estimating sex-specific processes in human populations: Are XY-homologous markers an effective tool?
Article Abstract:
XY-homologous microsatellite diversity in interpopulation was compared and analyzed. It was observed that the generally discordant pattern of genetic variation for X and Y-linked markers could be an outcome of sex-specific migration processes or sex-specific demographic processes or a combination of both.
