Unwind and slow down: Checkpoint activation by helicase and polymerase uncoupling
Article Abstract:
One dependent protein kinase (DNA) coated with DNA-binding protein is a common intermediate to activate Rad3-related (ATR) signaling in response to all of the genetoxic lesions. An attempt by Cimprich and colleagues was made on how DNA damage and polymerase toxins use a common mechanism to generate the ssDNA needed to activate ATR.

Arginine methylation of MRE11 by PRMT1 is required for DNA damage checkpoint control
Article Abstract:
Report stating that MRE11 contains asymmetrical dimethylarginines (aDMA) within its glycine arginine-rich (GAR) domain and is a substrate of protein argenine methyltransferase (RMT)1 is presented. It is shown that GAR domain regulates the exonuclease activity of MRE11.
