Variation in assimilating functions occurs in spontaneous Candida albicans mutants having chromosomal alterations
Article Abstract:
Four clinical spontaneous morphological mutants of Candida albicans were analyzed to determine their ability to utilize a variety of carbon and nitrogen sources for microbial growth. The spontaneous Candida albicans mutant from parent strains such as 3153A, C9, FC18 and WO-1 were capable of growing in different nitrogen sources. The mutants also exhibited uniform properties and did not show altered responses to D-arabinose, arbutin, ribose and proline and glycine media.

Genetic characterization of a phospholipase C gene from Candida albicans: presence of homologous sequences in Candida species other than Candida albicans
Article Abstract:
A study wherein phospholipase C (PLC) enzymes are used to identify a gene encoding PLC activity in Candida albicans is conducted. The expression of PLC in both the yeast and the hyphal forms of Candida is demonstrated. Results show that the deduced amino acid sequence contains not only unique organizational characteristics but also attributes that are common to a wide variety of PLC proteins.
