Phylogenetic diversity of a bacterial community determined from Siberian tundra soil DNA
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the isolation from genomic DNA from the active layer of tundra soil collected from the Siberian tundra. The findings indicate that these tundra-derived clones have very diverse phylogeny and that several of them probably reflect new genera or families. Thus, the isolation of most of the tundra soil bacterial community has never been done. Consequently, the physiology and function of its dominant members remains unknown.

The use of signature sequences in different proteins to determine the relative branching order of bacterial divisions: evidence that Fibrobacter diverged at a similar time to Chlamydia and the Cytophaga- Flavobacterium-bacteroides division
Article Abstract:
Segments of the heat shock proteins 60, 70 and CTP synthase and alanyl-tRNAsynthetase genes possess signature sequences used in the determination of the phylogenetic relationships among Fibrobacter succinogenes species. Research shows that F. succinogenes does not belong to the proteobacteria but can be grouped under Chlamydia and Cytophaga-Flavobacterium-bacteroides.

The evolution of bacterial luxI and luxR quorum sensing regulators
Article Abstract:
This article traces evolutionary aspects of hierarchical signalling cascades in bacteria as exemplified by luxI and luxR quorum sensing regulators. Results suggest that luxI and luxR must have evolved early in the evolution of Proteobacteria with some horizontal gene transfer along the way.
