The origin of P elements in Drosophila melanogaster
Article Abstract:
Studies indicate that the P family of transposable genetic elements found in Drosophila melanogaster most probably originated from D. willistoni species. The recent invasion of P elements into the D. melanogaster genome by an assumed horizontal transmission event was most likely due to human activity, with parisitic mites acting as shuttles between species. In addition, the recent invasion hypothesis postulates replicative transposition mechanism coupled with DNA gap repair to account for the spread of P elements thru the global population of D. melanogaster.

The Tn10 synaptic complex can capture a target DNA only after transposon excision
Article Abstract:
Experiments were conducted to analyze the entry of target DNA into the Tn10 transposition reaction. Staged in vitro reactions were used to determine whether and which synaptic complexes can become committed to a particular target DNA prior to strand transfer. The findings indicate that it is only at a late stage that target DNA enters the Tn10 transposition reaction. This occurs after double-strand cleavage at the transposon ends.

Pack-MULEs: Theft on a massive scale
Article Abstract:
Plant transposons can capture and mobilize cellular genes. It is found that portions of more than 1000 genes in rice are captured and mobilized by members of the Mutator-like elements (MULEs) family of transposons.
